FOOD STUFF; Skewers With Savor

Skewers infused with herbs and spices might seem a bit gimmicky, but tasting is believing. These come in six flavors, some delivering more punch than others.

Chicken seemed to benefit most from the flavorings, especially the assertive Mexican Fiesta and Indian Mango Curry. Other flavors are citrus rosemary, honey bourbon, garlic herb and a subtle Thai coconut lime. Food should be left on the skewers 15 minutes before cooking.

The packages suggest soaking the skewers first, but the manufacturer, Callisons Fine Foods in Lacey, Wash., said it wasn't necessary. They held up on my very hot grill. A package of 10 is $7.99 at Gracious Home and Art of Cooking stores.
